Car dealer locks in armed robbers

TWO armed robbers got more than they bargained for when a quick-thinking car dealer took his chance and locked them in the showroom.

The drama happened on Friday evening when two men, one armed with a sawn-off shotgun, the other with a crowbar, entered the showroom of Shak’s Specialist Cars, in Birkby Hall Road, Birkby, Huddersfield, and demanded cash from the owner and three male members of staff. When they were told there was no cash on the premises they stole two mobile phones.

The owner then ran from the showroom, leaving the robbers locked in. The robbers ran in to the rear workshop and fired the shotgun once to break the padlock on the door before escaping into the back alley. Both men were masked with black balaclavas and wore grey Adidas hoodies with three white stripes on the arms and dark tracksuit bottoms.

The man with the gun was believed to be white, of athletic or slim build, 5ft 9in, and spoke with a Yorkshire accent.

The other man was black, muscular, and 6ft 1in.
