CCTV footage showing the moment Hull university student Libby Squire gets into a car owned by the man accused of her rape and murder was played in court today, as police confirmed she was never seen alive again.

Miss Squire, a philosophy student, vanished in the early hours of February 1, 2019, after enjoying a night out with friends in Hull. Her body was found in the Humber six weeks later.

Pawel Relowicz, formerly of Raglan Street, Hull, is currently on trial accused of her rape and murder.

CCTV footage shown by the prosecution to the jury today showed the moment Miss Squire got into the front passenger side of Relowicz's silver Vauxhall Astra car, parked in Haworth Street, Hull, shortly after midnight on February 1, after he had "intercepted" her as she stumbled along Beverley Road.

The car is then seen to leave Haworth Street and travel to the Oak Road playing fields where it arrives at 12.11am. It is here the prosecution alleged that Relowicz, 26, raped and murdered Miss Squire, before dumping her body in the River Hull. The silver Astra is then picked up on CCTV heading back from the playing fields, returning to Raglan Street where Relowicz lived with his wife and two children, at 12.22am.

Two hours after the prosecution say Relowicz left the playing fields, Detective Constable James Grandidge of Humberside Police showed how he was seen again on CCTV walking across Raglan Street before his Astra car is seen travelling back to Oak Road playing fields for a third and final time that night.

Det Cons Grandidge said: "Libby Squire is not seen on CCTV again after arriving at Oak Road playing fields."

The jury were also shown CCTV footage of Relowicz allegedly performing a sex act in Newland Avenue, close to his home, after his third visit to the playing fields, in the early hours of February 1.

Later that day, he is seen visiting the St Stephen's shopping centre in Hull with a friend. He is caught on camera purchasing football boots and a goalkeeper shirt, which he bought for a five-a-side match he played later that night.

The court heard how Relowicz was first arrested by police at his home address on February 6, 2019, telling officers "I'm scared" has he was put in the back of the police vehicle.

A transcript of his interview at the police station was also read out in court.

When asked if Miss Squire was alive, Relowicz responded:"I don't know, how am I supposed to know, I didn't abduct her."

He told police he had parked his car in Haworth Street as he planned to go for a run and was doing a warm up.

He said he came across Miss Squire who was "crying and wanted her mother" and offered her a lift home because he felt sorry for her.

He said: “She kept crying and sat there and was saying she was cold. I was asking her, ‘you remember the address, you need help.’

“She was trying handles of the cars to see if they were open. I was asking her if she knows the address and said ‘yes.’

“I was saying my car is here if she is OK with it I can give her a lift.

“She got inside the car and I fastened the seatbelt and I could see because the car was warm she felt better."

Relowicz said he asked Miss Squire whether to go left or right and she told him left and they travelled onto Beresford Avenue.

He then claims he thought she was going to be sick so stopped the car close to Oak Road.

He told police that Miss Squire got out of the car and apologised to him as she fell over. He said she then got back up and walked off and he left the scene.

He said he went home and had a bath, but could not stop thinking about "the girl" so returned to Oak Road to see if she was still there but couldn't remember when exactly this was.

He told police: "I have a wife who is 23 and thought what if something like this could have happened to my wife."

Relowicz denies murder and rape.

The trial continues.
