Concern over parlour’s licence bid

CONCERNS have been raised that drunk customers at a well-known Leeds massage parlour would lose their inhibitions and put staff at risk.

Winstons, on Dewsbury Road in Beeston, Leeds, has applied to Leeds City Council for a licence that would permit it to sell alcohol from vending machines.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed the force was objecting to the application.

A written objection from Hunslet councillor Mohammed Iqbal also added that he was worried
about the impact on local residents.

He wrote: “I also have significant concerns for the safety of staff within the venue, as close physical contact (e.g. massages) with people who are drinking alcohol could lead to danger through the reduced inhibitions that alcohol can cause.”

According to council documents Winstons is “a health and leisure premises where patrons can attend and use a wide range of facilities”.

Advertising itself as the UK’s largest massage parlour, the venue employs more than 30 women. The licensing sub-committee will make a ruling at its meeting on Monday, April 22.
