A murder investigation was launched by South Yorkshire Police on Monday, following the arrest of three men aged between 19 and 39, and three teenagers aged 16 and 17. All come from Barnsley.

Officers yesterday confirmed that the party had been taking place at Mr Simpson’s home in Pleasant View, Cudworth, Barnsley, and said they were still investigating what had happened.

The family statement said: “Steven had just turned 18 and was just starting out in life.

“Kevin and Jackie, Steven’s father and stepmother and Bernadette his mother can not describe the loss they all feel at this time.

“Steven was a very caring and lovely young man and will be missed by everyone that knows him.”

South Yorkshire detectives are appealing to anyone who was at the party which ran from Friday into Saturday morning, and anyone else who may have information about the incident, to contact them by calling 101.
