Family speak out after fatal hit and run in South Yorkshire

Police are investigating the collision, involving a BMW car which failed to stop in the Stainforth area of Doncaster, and today 62 year-old Susan Gravel's family spoke out.

Speaking on behalf of the family her sister Val said: “Susan was well liked and well known locally, we’re thankful for everyone’s kind words and thoughts.

“Whoever is responsible, if you know something about what happened or who might have been involved, please tell police.

“We need the missing piece of the puzzle so we can lay Susan to rest and find some answers.

“If you know or saw anything, no matter how small – it could be vital. Please call police or if you’re the driver, hand yourself in.”

At around 12.55pm on Saturday a grey or silver BMW five series was involved in a collision with Susan in Station Road near to the junction with King George’s Court.

Susan suffered fatal injuries and was taken to hospital via air ambulance but died. The BMW has since been recovered abandoned by investigating officers in Rawcliffe, Goole, and extensive enquiries are ongoing.

Insp Mark Hughes said: “We are incredibly grateful to Susan’s family for their support during what is a very upsetting time for them all, and our thoughts are with them.

“Our investigation continues in earnest and the recovery of the BMW is a positive step but we still need help from the public to identify those responsible for this crime.

“Did you see the BMW on Saturday morning or afternoon? Did you see it driving in the Stainforth area? Do you know who may have been involved in this incident?

“It is important we trace the person driving the BMW and anyone else who may hold information about this collision as soon as possible.”
