Four teenagers hurt as car ploughs into pedestrians outside Leeds church

FOUR teenagers have been taken to hospital after a car ploughed into a group of people outside a Leeds church.

It is understood between three and five pedestrians were hit after the vehicle came off the bend on Robin Lane, Pudsey, just before 6pm on Sunday.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed all four youngsters - three boys aged 14, 15 and 16 and a 17-year-old girl - were taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

None of their injuries was thought to be life-threatening.

Two 14-year-old boys who were passengers in the car were also hurt.

Police cordoned off the scene as ambulance staff and a paramedic treated the injured.

Traffic was diverted away from the crash site by Police Community Support Officers.

Uniformed officers were seen examining the road and pavement directly outside St Andrews Methodist Church on Robin Lane.

A metal post could be seen lying on the ground with debris around it.

An ambulance was parked in the car park opposite the church.

A grey Vauxhall Astra, with a damaged front end, could also been seen in the car park.

Further down Robin Lane a middle-aged man was being given treatment by a paramedic as he sat on the pavement with his back against a wall.

It is understood a man was arrested by police at the scene.
