Guilty: Husband who murdered Sheffield mum and stuffed her in cupboard

Thahi Harroba Manaa murdered 28-year-old Sara Al Shourefi, at their Sheffield home, leaving a screwdriver embedded in her eye socket.

He then stuffed her body in a cupboard while his young children were in the house.

Manaa, 37, from The Oval, Firth Park, Sheffield, used an array of weapons to inflict a painful death for 105 minutes on the mother of his children.

Manaa, who admitted the killing but denied murder on the grounds of his mental state at the time, was found guilty of murder as a jury at Sheffield Crown Court.

Jurors heard that Mrs Al-Shourefi suffered “sadistic injuries” inflicted with “severe force” in the murder at the couple’s home.

The defenceless mother was attacked with screwdrivers, an electric drill, two metal bars, a wooden shelf and a knife.

Prosecutor Nicholas Campbell QC told the court at an earlier hearing in the trial how neighbours heard Koran excerpts played at full blast, shouting and horrific torture noises coming from the house on the day of the murder.

In the trial’s opening Mr Campbell said: “She had been hit over the head repeatedly with a variety of weapons.”

Mrs Al-Shourefi also suffered stab wounds to her head and neck, as well as lacerations, bruises and injuries indicating she had been kicked and stamped on.

Post-mortem tests showed the mother had died from blood loss, brain injuries and inhaling blood.

The couple had moved to the UK as immigrants from Kuwait in 2010 and had four children aged eight, six, four and two.

Manaa will be sentenced at a later date.
