Gun robbers threatened staff at Sheffield store

MASKED robbers who are believed to have been armed with handguns threatened staff at a store in Sheffield before escaping with cash.

Police said two men with their faces covered walked in to the RJ Trading store in Staniforth Road.

The incident happened at about 5.30pm on Wednesday May 11, but police only released details today.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The men are believed to have been carrying handguns and have taken a quantity of cash from the shop before leaving the area towards Nidd Road. No one was injured during the incident and an investigation is underway to find those responsible.”

Detective Constable Paul Lydon, said: “The men are both described as Asian, about 6ft tall and of slim build.

“Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident and the gun was not fired, but this was a highly traumatic incident for the people inside the shop.

“We are continuing to follow up a number of lines of enquiry and I would like to urge anyone who has any information about this incident to contact police.”

Two 17-year-old youths have been arrested in connection with the incident and have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
