Jail for Bradford man who uploaded videos in support of IS

Sagheer Hussain, 39, of Bishop Street, was sentenced after being found guilty of three terrorism offences at Leeds Crown Court.

He was arrested by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit in January 2016 and charged with three offences contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

According to counter-terror officials, Hussain uploaded three videos to his Google+ account via his YouTube account which were supportive of IS, also known as Daesh.

He also added comments in support of the group. Although the Google+ account only had two followers, because it was uploaded to a public account, more than 25,000 views were recorded before they were removed from Internet.

Detective Chief Superintendent Clive Wain, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said “Sagheer Hussain openly shared videos from a terrorist group over the Internet.

“Terrorist groups such as Daesh rely heavily on their propaganda being shared online where it is used to radicalise, encourage support and provoke individuals to carry out attacks abroad and in the UK.

“Tackling extremist material is an essential part of protecting the public and preventing offences that incite or encourage acts of terrorism.

“We urge anyone who sees extremist content online to report their concerns anonymously to specialist officers via www.gov.uk/report-terrorism or by contacting the police in confidence on 0800 789321.”
