A reconstruction of the last movements of the 36-year-old will also be aired on the BBC1 Crimewatch programme at 9pm.

The body of the paint sprayer, who was working extra hours to pay for his wedding, was found in the playing fields of Rainbow Forge Primary School in Hackenthorpe, Sheffield, on the morning of December 17.

South Yorkshire Police will also tonight be showing footage of a car seen driving down nearby Birley Spa Lane and Delves Road, near the field where Mr Holdsworth was walking home when he was attacked.

Shortly afterwards, a person is seen entering the field, before another figure, thought to be the victim based on the time he was due to be heading home, is seen.

Around a minute later a grainy figure is seen leaving the field and shortly after that the car spotted on CCTV is seen driving away.

Detectives were yesterday in Berkshire working with CCTV experts in a bid to discover what kind of car it could be, based on the grainy footage.

Mr Holdsworth, who had been due to celebrate the birthday of his step-son Tiarnan on Christmas Eve, was last seen at 11.10pm on December 16. He got off the number 120 First Bus on Birley Spa Lane, close to where his body was discovered the following morning.

Temporary Detective Superintendent, Phil Etheridge, who is leading the investigation, said: “We really hope that tonight’s reconstruction, and the airing of the CCTV footage for the first time, will jog people’s memories and hopefully bring us the vital pieces of information we need to catch Simon’s killer.

“Please think about whether you were around Delves Road or Birley Spa Lane between 10.45pm and 11.45pm on Monday, 16 December 2013. You may have seen something that proves absolutely vital.

“Equally, do you have any information about Simon’s life that could help with the investigation? You may even have information about who is responsible for the murder.”

Anyone with details should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
