Leeds driver attacked and robbed as he stops to help man in road

A GOOD Samaritan was attacked and robbed after being tricked into stopping his car to help a man apparently lying prone by the road in Leeds.

The 52-year-old had his wedding ring ripped from his finger and needed hospital treatment after being set on by the man and an accomplice.

He had been driving home along Broad Lane in Bramley when he saw someone lying motionless near to the junction with Fairfield Hill.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “He stopped his car and got out to check the man was okay when he was attacked from behind by another man.

“The man lying down then got up and joined in the attack.”

The robbers ran off after stealing his gold ring, leaving him with facial injuries and a cut to his forehead which required stitches.

The robbers were white, aged 19 to 20 and slim. One was about 5ft 7ins tall and was wearing jeans and a dark top. The other was about 5ft 11ins tall and was wearing jeans and a white top.

The incident happened at about 10.40pm on Friday, March 1.
