Male nurse is jailed for sex offences on two teenagers he ‘seduced’

A male nurse has been jailed for four years for sex offences against two teenage girls he befriended at a dance group.

Sentencing David Falkiner, 47, at Leeds Crown Court yesterday, Judge Scott Wolstenholme said he had selected the girls over a couple of years because, for different reasons, they were isolated and vulnerable, then “seduced them”.

He said Falkiner was an intelligent man, a qualified nurse who had recently completed a masters degree, but had “behaved quite inappropriately”.

The judge added: “You knew you were running risks because the parents of one of the girls found out about the relationship and police were informed but you allowed that relationship to resume after a few months when she contacted you again and all the time you were carrying on regular sexual activity with the other girl.

“I deduce from that you were simply unwilling or unable to control your urge for sexual gratification with under-age girls.”

Falkiner, of Wharncliffe Road, Wakefield, admitted seven offences of sexual activity with a child and one of possessing an indecent photo.

Jeremy Hill-Baker, prosecuting, said one girl said Falkiner told her he loved her and was “there for her” when she had problems.

DS David Rogerson said: “I would like to thank the victims and their families for their bravery and co-operation in this investigation and we hope they are pleased with the sentence handed by the courts.

“In this case Falkiner was shown to have taken advantage of his victims, exploiting their vulnerability and age and betraying their trust. He will now spend a long time in prison to consider the seriousness of his crimes.”
