Man hurt as axe and gun wielding raiders target Bradford shop

A SHOP worker was injured when masked raiders armed with a gun and an axe struck at a convenience store in Bradford.

Police were called to the store on Barkerend Road just after 9.30pm last night (Mon July 12) after three men wearing balaclavas entered with a gun and an axe and made demands for cash.  

The men, who were believed to be Asian, left the store empty-handed in a vehicle described as a silver Peugeot.

A vehicle matching the description was found on fire a short time later in Heap Lane, Bradford.  

The occupants of the vehicle are believed to have run off towards Wapping Road.  

A male staff member was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for treatment for minor injuries and shock. 

Officers will be carrying out extra patrols in the area today to provide reassurance.

Detective Sergeant Beverley Garnett, of Bradford District CID, said: “This was understandably a frightening experience for the staff member involved. We treat any use of a weapon extremely seriously and it is vital that we identify and bring to justice those involved. 

“We would urge anyone who was in the Barkerend Road or Heap Lane areas who saw any part of this incident to please call Bradford District CID via 101.”
