Massive fire breaks out at petrol station in Richmond

Homes near a petrol station in Richmond have been evacuated after a large fire broke out this afternoon.

UPDATE: The Harvester Energy petrol station and attached Nisa Local shop have both been destroyed by the fire. No injuries have been reported. Richmondshire Cricket Club was evacuated while a junior training session was taking place.

Police have advised people to avoid the Victoria Road area of the town after a blaze started at a storeroom attached to the petrol garage.

Nobody has been injured but there are 10 fire engines currently at the scene near Richmondshire Cricket Club.

Smoke can be seen drifting across the town and residents have been told to keep doors and windows closed.

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene 'for some time'.

The roof is alight and a cordon has been ereceted around the petrol station, with the Royal Military Police enforcing it.
