Mr Gay UK Pc ‘raped man on police night out’

A WEST Yorkshire police officer and former Mr Gay UK groped three men on a coppers’ Christmas night out, then raped another man in his hotel room, a court heard today.

Pc Mark Carter, 28, is alleged to have dragged one of his alleged victims by the hair, punched him, bitten his shoulder and raped him in a hotel room.

The alleged rape victim then fled the hotel by a fire escape and alerted a passer-by, a jury at Leeds Crown Court was told.

The court was told Carter is a gay officer with West Yorkshire Police and a former holder of the Mr Gay UK title.

Sarah Wright, prosecuting, told the jury Carter initially groped two men, whom he knew, in a restaurant in Leeds on December 18 2009.

He was in the restaurant with colleagues enjoying a Christmas celebration, she said.

It was alleged he touched one man on his bottom and groin with both hands and allegedly told him: “You’re going to get f***** later.”

The party then left the restaurant and the defendant went to Bar Fibre, where he allegedly touched a third man, who he also knew, on his groin and asked him if he wanted oral sex, the prosecutor said.

She told the jury the defendant then went to the Loft Bar in Queens Court, Leeds, where he met a fourth man and they ended up walking back to the Etap hotel in the city centre.

Miss Wright said CCTV images would show the pair cuddling and leaving the bar walking hand-in-hand.

“They walked to the Etap Hotel in Leeds where the defendant had booked a room. The complainant says he assisted the defendant because he had cramp and difficulty walking. He said he put his arms round him because he was cold,” the jury was told.

“Once at the defendant’s room, the complainant was to tell police that the defendant opened the door and dragged him into the room by his hair.”

Miss Wright said the complainant was punched in the face as he tried to pull away from performing a sex act on the police officer.

Carter, of Station Lane, Birkenshaw, Bradford, then went on to rape the man, the jury was told.

“The defendant persisted even though the complainant told him to stop. At some point the defendant bit the complainant’s shoulder,” Miss Wright told the jury.

She told the court the complainant showered and managed to escape as Carter went into the shower after him.

She added: “As he was in the shower, the complainant hurriedly got dressed, stuffing his socks into his pocket before fleeing from the room, down the corridor and out of the hotel via a fire escape.

“CCTV images show him leaving the room, running along the corridor and down the stairwell.”

The court was told the complainant had injuries “consistent with penetrative anal intercourse.”

In interview, Carter said the incident in the restaurant was “done in jest” and he denied the allegations made by the two other men.

He claimed all the activity in the hotel with the fourth man was “consensual”.

Carter, a serving PC with West Yorkshire Police, denies three counts of sexual assault and two rapes.

He hit the headlines in 2006 after being crowned Mr Gay UK at the Flamingo Club in Blackpool and was said to have the full support of West Yorkshire Police following his win.

The trial is expected to last eight days.
