Vicky Harris, assistant manager for public health commissioning in Hull, said: “Neither of the two young people affected were known to our substance misuse support services.

“Anyone who chooses to use drugs needs to be aware that there is no way to be certain what you are taking. The substance you think you have bought may be something else entirely. The drug quoted in this case is not known to services locally. Forensic investigations to determine this are ongoing.”

A Police spokesman said: “Police were called by the ambulance eervice at 9.22pm last night reporting the sudden death of an 19-year-old man and a second 19-year-old man in a serious condition at an address on Park Grove, Hull.

“It is believed the men had both taken drugs prior to becoming ill. Police are working with Public Health to establish any danger to the wider public. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
