Police appeal over gunshots in Mexborough

POLICE investigating reports of a gun being fired in the Frederick Street area of Mexborough near Rotherham last week have issued an appeal to trace a group of teenage boys.

Shots were fired in the Frederick Street/Whitelee Road area of Mexborough At around 6pm on Wednesday January 20.

Officers want to speak to a group of teenage boys who were walking in the area at the time. They were reportedly wearing dark clothing and hooded tops.

The teenage boys are described as being slim and between 5ft 5in and 5ft 7in tall.

Three men were arrested in connection with the incident and later bailed pending further enquiries.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A separate report of shots being fired through the window of a property in Victoria Road, Mexborough, remains under investigation by police and at this time it is not clear whether the incidents are linked.”
