Jessica Hopkinson denied harming Kristal Davison, who died from a head injury after at least two episodes of violence or trauma.

The jury at Leeds Crown Court found Hopkinson guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child after two days of deliberations.

They have yet to reach a verdict on Kristal’s father, Lee Davison, who faces the same charge.

Kristal had fractures to her ribs and legs and injuries to her eyes caused over a number of weeks before her death in April last year, the four-week trial heard.

A post-mortem examination found bruising and grazes to her head and face, internal bruising to her scalp, two distinct trauma injuries to her skull, bleeding to the brain and eyes, healing rib fractures and healing fractures to the left thigh and shin bone.

Hopkinson, 19, and Davison, 28, from Ashleigh Avenue, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, were the child’s sole carers.

Both told police they did not know anything about the injuries to their daughter and claimed the other must have harmed the baby.

The case was adjourned until tomorrow.
