Probe into Sheffield factory blaze

An investigation is due today into the cause of a fire at an engineering factory on a Sheffield industrial estate.

Some 40 firefighters and eight fire engines were called to the Tek Engineering site, on Tyler Street, Wincobank, at around 5.30am today.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they found flames coming through the roof of the office space and had to force entry to start work putting out the blaze.

A spokesman said: “They worked quickly to contain the fire to the office space, preventing it from spreading to the adjoining empty factory unit.

“By around 7am they had the fire under the control and reduced their attendance to three fire engines, which continued damping down the site.”

The service said the fire crews worked quickly to get local roads re-opened ahead of the morning rush hour, and that an investigation would take place today into the fire.
