The 22-year-old from Yarm, Teesside, was hurt while 'tombstoning' at Thomason Foss, near Goathland, on June 25 and had to be airlifted to hospital.

Over the May Bank Holiday weekend, a 36-year-old man from Hull was found with breathing difficulties and a back injury after jumping from the Falls. He was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary after a 'difficult' rescue operation involving almost 30 members of the emergency services.

There were also concerns over youths 'tombstoning' off harbour walls and piers in Scarborough, Filey and Whitby on June 25, the hottest day of 2020 so far, although no injuries were reported.

Thomason Foss has become a notorious trouble spot during the lockdown period, with police officers and National Park rangers having to patrol the area to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Large groups of youths, many from the Hull and Teesside areas, have had to be moved on after drinking, partying and having barbecues at the site, and local residents have been disgusted at the amount of litter left behind, which has included clothes, inflatable toys, towels, soiled nappies and even underwear. Some of the youths became abusive when approached by police.

A clearway has had to be implemented on nearby roads to prevent inconsiderate parking on verges.
