Son held after 91-year-old found dead in house

DETECTIVES have begun a murder inquiry after a 91-year-old man was found dead in a house in West Yorkshire.

The house in Bingley Road, Shipley, was searched on Sunday after a police officer on duty in the town centre was approached by a man wishing to report an incident.

A 56-year-old man, understood to be the dead man’s son, has been arrested as part of the investigation, which is being led by West Yorkshire Police’s elite Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

Police are not believed to be looking for anyone else.

A police spokesman said: “At 10.45am yesterday a police officer was approached by a man in the centre of Shipley reporting an incident.

“A house search was subsequently conducted at an address in Bingley Road, Saltaire, where the body of a 91-year-old man was discovered.

“A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.”
