Stolen car recovered by Sheffield police after shooting

TWO cars have been recovered by detectives investigating a shooting in Sheffield.

A 25-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital for treatment after police were called to reports that a gun had been fired in Halifax Road, in the Penistone Road area, at about 2pm on Wednesday.

Officers also believe that a firearm was discharged in Southey Green Road prior to the incident, but no one was injured.

Following initial enquiries, two cars have been recovered and detectives are now looking to trace the drivers.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Whittaker said: “We believe that two cars, a black Seat Leon (registration number FD06 FJJ) and a grey VW Golf (registration number YN65 WCE), were involved in this incident.

“Following numerous enquiries, we have recovered the two cars, one of which was stolen from a property in Barnsley.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who saw the cars prior to the incident or who knows who may have been driving them to contact police.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving along Penistone Road at the time of the incident or who saw anything suspicious to contact us.”
