Suspect who targeted 16-year-old girl foiled by passer-by

A would be offender was foiled by a member of the public who came to the aid of a 16-year-old girl yesterday.

Humberside Police say they would like to trace the man, or anyone who saw the attempted robbery in Scunthorpe Central Park between 8.10am and 9am.

The girl was approached by a man wearing all black clothing, including jogging bottoms, a hooded top with the hood up, a beanie hat, a scarf over his face and sunglasses. He also wore black gloves and Vans trainers.

He tried to grab her bag but ran off towards Kingsway empty handed when a second man, in his 40s and wearing a green coat and jeans shouted at him.

The offender is said to have been white, around 5ft 9in tall and spoke with an English accent.

Anyone with information about the incident – particularly the man in the green coat who scared the offender away – is asked to call 101, quoting log number 106 of February 6.
