The Regent, Leeds: Three arrests after man dies in Leeds city centre pub

Police have launched an investigation after a man died following an incident at a Yorkshire city centre pub this weekend.

West Yorkshire Police were called at 1.50pm on Sunday in relation to an altercation at The Regent pub on Kirkgate in Leeds city centre. A further call was made to police 11 minutes later to say it had escalated.

Police arrived on scene at 2.09pm and found a man who was unresponsive. He was taken to hospital but later died. Three people have been arrested and released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Al Weekes, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We understand that there has been an incident involving the deceased and a woman inside the pub and that a number of people have intervened. A man has died, and it is vital that we establish what has taken place. We have already spoken to a number of witnesses, but I would urge anyone else who has seen any part of this incident to please make contact.”

A statement from West Yorkshire Police added: “Police were initially called at 1.50pm to a report of an incident at The Regent pub, with a further call made at 2.01pm to say that the situation was escalating. As a matter of course, a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the prior police contact before the death.”
