Three in court over Leeds siblings hit by car

Sabah Saleem, 10, was left fighting for her life after she and her two-year-old brother, Rayhan, were knocked down by a car in Brudenell Road, Hyde Park, in August last year.

The men, aged 36, 40 and 42, will appear in court next month.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the 36-year-old man had been reported for summons on offences of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, perverting the course of justice and possession of cocaine.

The two other men have been charged with perverting the course of justice. They will appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on March 20.

A 26-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released without charge.

Sabah was described by relatives as a “little hero” for trying to protect her brother from the impact of the collision on August 18.

The pair were hit after buying onions for their family’s Eid celebrations.

Both underwent surgery at Leeds General Infirmary and are understood to be recovering from their injuries.

A cousin, who was with Sabah and Rayhan, escaped injury.
