It follows a police investigation into how a 27-year-old woman came to be in a “dishevelled” state in woods near Woodsome Hall Golf Club in Fenay Bridge, Huddersfield.

Police were called to the scene in Woodsome Road by a passing motorist shortly after midnight on Sunday.

It is understood that the woman had tried to flag down other drivers for help before she was found, and police have appealed for all drivers who used the road between 11pm on Saturday and shortly after midnight on Sunday to come forward.

Detectives are believed to be investigating suggestions that the woman was driven to the site in a Vauxhall Astra while in a cardboard box.

Although the woman’s injuries were said to be “minor”, the case has been assigned to West Yorkshire’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, which investigates the county’s most serious crimes.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Lisa Griffin, said: “We believe that the woman tried to stop a number of motorists to ask for help, however failed to do so until just after midnight.

“We also believe now she could have been transported in a Vauxhall Astra. It is important that anyone who may have seen the woman or the car comes forward to speak to me.”

A 49-year-old man and 46-year-old woman arrested in connection with the investigation have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
