Two homes shut down after causing 'misery' to neighbours with anti-social behaviour and drug dealing

Two homes have been shut down after closure orders were granted by magistrates due to anti-social behaviour by their residents.

Police working with Redcar and Cleveland Council and housing company Beyond Housing gathered evidence to put before magistrates in respect of the properties in Patten Lane, Guisborough and Eastcroft Road, Grangetown.

Police said misery had been caused to neighbours with complaints being logged over a prolonged period, while in the case of the Grangetown home drug dealing had also been reported from the premises.

Neil Deluce, a Cleveland Police neighbourhood inspector in Redcar and Cleveland, said: “We work closely with our partners to tackle issues with drug dealing and antisocial behaviour across Cleveland and this sends a clear message that action will be taken against those peddling drugs in the community and causing misery to their neighbours.

“Action will be taken and you could lose your home as a result.”

Councillor Barry Hunt, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and housing, added: “We simply will not tolerate behaviour which makes decent people feel unsafe in their own homes or going about their business in their own neighbourhood.

“The decision to go to court to close a home is never taken lightly, but we will not hesitate to do what it takes, along with our partners to enable people to live without fear.”
