Valentine widow: Police believe missing man was murdered as new facts emerge

Father-of-three Sajid Saddique has been listed as a missing person since February 2007 when he was last seen attending a business meeting at an Asda supermarket car park in Shipley.

West Yorkshire Police said yesterday that they are treating the case as a murder investigation after new evidence. Two men, aged 62 and 45, from Bradford and Halifax, respectively, have been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and were in custody last night.

At a Press conference in Bradford Mr Saddique’s widow told of her shock that police had contacted her to tell her they believed he had been murdered.

Asma Saddique said: “I feel like I have gone back seven years and that day has come back. It was a massive shock but I believe everything happens for a reason and now is my time to know exactly what has happened.

“It is extremely difficult but at the same time I want justice to be done and for us to know exactly what has happened. I would urge anyone to please come forward and give us the information that we want to give us that closure for me and my family.”

Detective Inspector Steve Snow said: “We realise that seven years ago is a long time, and it’s been an even longer time for Sajid’s family who have lost a father, a husband and a brother.

“But regardless of how long this investigation lasts, we are committed to establishing the truth of what happened to Sajid, so that we can help to give his family some closure.”

Mr Saddique, who was a car garage owner, lived in the Heaton area of Bradford.
