Video: Masked raiders attack Leeds post office with axe

A man was left with two broken arms after being attacked by masked men outside a Leeds post office today.

The 45-year-old victim, who was carrying a “substantial” amount of money, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance.

Police are investigating reports that the two robbers used an axe, crowbar or other weapons during the attack in Hunslet.

A black Audi A4 S-Line TDI estate, which was stolen two years ago from the Leeds area, was used by the raiders and found abandoned at nearby Westbury Place shortly after the incident.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 9.45am today, a man was attacked outside the post office in Thwaite Gate, Hunslet, as he was on his way there to deposit cash.

“He was assaulted by two men who were armed with weapons that were variously described by witnesses as being similar to an axe, crowbar or golf club.

“The men stole a substantial amount of cash and were driven off in a waiting black Audi estate.”
