Police also believe that two men seen leaving the house prior to police being called may have been the intended targets.

Det Chief Insp Nicki Miller, of Humberside Police, said: “Our investigation is continuing and as we make progress we can confirm that an amount of accelerant was present at the scene and forensic enquiries are ongoing.

“We continue to treat the incident as a priority and our team is pursuing a number of lines of enquiry. We have information to suggest that two men were seen leaving the property prior to the arrival of police.

“We believe that these men may have been the intended targets and are keen to locate them to confirm their safety. I would urge those men to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“This type of incident is rare and we do not believe there to be cause for wider concern for the community. Whilst enquiries are ongoing we will continue to provide additional police patrols in the in the area as a reassurance measure.”

It is thought the time frame for the fire being started is between 7pm and 10:30pm and police are asking for witnesses in the area at the time or house-holders with CCTV to get in touch.
