Youths shoot bird with catapult before feeding it to their dog in Wykebeck Woods

Police are appealing for information after a bird was killed and fed to a dog in Leeds woodland.

West Yorkshire Police's wildlife and rural crime team posted about the incident on social media.

It was one of 85 incidents involving animals across the region.

The area stretches from the beck's source at Waterloo Lake in Roundhay Park, through the Gipton, Seacroft, Killingbeck and Halton areas before emerging into the River Aire opposite Rothwell Country Park.

Wildlife crime officers are also investigating the theft of fish from Horbury Lagoon at Wakefield on Saturday, July 4.

There have also been a number of incidents where dogs were left in hot cars.
