Criminals dealt blow of swift justice

Police have made 36 arrests in four days in a bid to cut crime.

The arrests were made across Calderdale for offences including burglary, attempt robbery, theft, assaults and drug offences.

The arrests mark the start of a new autumn campaign which aims to ensure crime, and in particular burglary and vehicle crime, continues to fall across the district. Officers also executed a drugs warrant in Pellon, a deprived area near Halifax.

Two people were arrested and officers recovered drugs and cash from the property.

Detective Sergeant Phil Jagger, of Calderdale CID, said: “The operation coincides with the end of British Summer Time and the onset of darker nights.

“Traditionally at this time of year, we can see an increase in the number of burglaries, and so it is important that we do everything possible to try and prevent offences.

“However, we also need householders to help. They must work with us by not leaving their homes in darkness.

“By taking the simple precaution of using lights and timer switches, this can make the difference between your home being targeted by burglars or being left alone.”
