Crowning glory at panto for Coronation Street star

SOAP star Beverley Callard presided over a pantomime promotion session yesterday as the cast members of Sheffield’s traditional festive show were unveiled by producers.

Callard, who is best-known for her role as Liz McDonald in Coronation Street, will play the Wicked Queen in the Lyceum theatre’s production of Sleeping Beauty, which will run from December 9 until January 8, next year.

She will be joined by CBeebies children’s television presenter Sid Sloane, who will play the Jester and panto dame Damian Williams who will take the role of Nurse Nellie.

A spokesman for Sheffield Theatres said: “The team who were behind last year’s successful show Peter Pan, starring Hayley Tamaddon, will once again create the show, which will be a family-friendly pantomime full of humour.”

Pantomime producer Paul Hendy, a former children’s TV and game show presenter will write and direct the production alongside his wife Emily Wood, who has been involved in pantomime production for many years.

Tickets for this year’s show are now on sale at the Sheffield Theatres box office, priced between £10 and £22 each.
