Cyclist found with serious injuries in Yorkshire Dales

Police are appealing for information after a cyclist was found with serious injuries on the Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales.

The man, who is in his 50s and from Middlesbrough, was spotted lying in the road by a motorist near Thwaite at about 11.40am yesterday.

He was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where today he remained in a serious condition.

Police say the man had been travelling from the direction of Hawes towards Muker.

He was riding a silver Canyon pedal cycle and wearing a white helmet, fluorescent yellow T-shirt and dark coloured shorts.

Anyone who can help piece together how the man came off his bike is asked to ring North Yorkshire Police’s major collision investigation unit via the force’s 101 phone number.
