Dales link launched to encourage walkers

NEW regular Sunday and Bank Holiday bus link to the Dales from Bradford and Shipley are being launched this Sunday.

It is hoped that the move with encourage families, walkers, climbers and sightseers to take a trip into the Dales.

The 650 bus is retimed to offer regular connections throughout the day at Ilkley to Malham, Bolton Abbey, The Strid, Embsay, Burnsall, Grassington, Kettlewell, Buckden, Aysgarth Falls, Bainbridge and Hawes.

Key departures from Bradford Interchange are at 9.20am, 10.40am and 12.40pm with regular buses back throughout the afternoon and evening.

DalesBus is managed by the Dales and Bowland Community Interest Company whose managing director, Colin Speakman, said the company had a record year in 2009.

Mr Speakman said: "Last year was a brilliant year for DalesBus with a near 50 per cent increase in passengers and new services.

"Thanks to support from Metro, North Yorkshire County Council and the Yorkshire Dales National Park we are able to offer even better services from Bradford this year."

The 650 is operated by First and will sell Dales Rover tickets valid on all DalesBus services and all TransDev Keighley & District buses. Prices start from 7.50 for a Southern Dales Rover, valid as far as Malham or Buckden, while a 9.50 All Dales Rover will take passengers all the way to Hawes.

Up to two children can travel free with each fare-paying passenger whilst Bus Pass holders and Metrocard holders travel free on all DalesBus services.
