Dame Margot dress adds touch of glamour to winter art sale

A FABULOUS black lace cocktail dress worn by the legendary ballerina Dame Margot Fonteyn is amongst a stunning £1m collection of antiques and fine art up for sale in Yorkshire this weekend.

The Pavilions of Harrogate Antiques and Fine Art Fair promises to bring a touch of 18th century glamour to the North Yorkshire spa town when it opens this morning.

The fair is billed as the region's biggest winter antiques event and organisers have enlisted the help of a specialist in haute couture for a display recalling the Age of Elegance and the era of Downton Abbey.

Pride of place within the display will be taken by Dame Margot's dress, which is being sold with a letter of authenticity from her interior designer, Sarah Hamilton, who was given the dress as a gift.

Alongside items of high fashion will be the opportunity to purchase high quality antiques and items of fine art, porcelain, silver and furniture.

The three-day event opens this morning at the Pavilions of Harrogate and runs until Monday. Opening times are from 11am to 5pm each day.
