Dashing display from Santas

Festive fundraisers dug out their Santa suits to help raise money for a Yorkshire hospice at the weekend.

Scores of people joined the Santa Dash fun run in Leeds city centre yesterday to boost funds for St Gemma's Hospice. The largest hospice in Leeds provides free specialist medical and nursing care to local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses as well as support to their families.

More than half of the hospice's annual running costs which exceed 8m have to be raised from voluntary contributions and fund-raising events such as the Santa Dash.

A longer Santa Dash, which had been due to take place in Hyde Park on Saturday, was cancelled because of ice on the route.
