Date set for
ex-Blades star’s
rape appeal

FORMER Sheffield United star Ched Evans will have his appeal against conviction for rape heard next month.

Evans is currently serving a five-year sentence after being found guilty of raping a woman at a hotel near Rhyl, North Wales, in May 2011.

The footballer, who was convicted in April, was initially refused leave to appeal but has exercised his right to continue his legal challenge directly at the Court of Appeal on November 6.

His law firm declined to comment beyond restating Evans continues to maintain his innocence and that he believes “a comprehensive and objective analysis of the case will ultimately lead to his conviction being overturned”.

Evans’s trial at Caenarfon Crown Court heard the footballer admitted having sex with the 19-year-old. The prosecution argued the woman was too drunk to consent.
