“We are hoping the larger hotels will ready for Whitsuntide; that is doubtful, but they will certainly be ready for the summer season. All our boarding houses have been de-requisitioned, but some of them are being turned into flats, a matter which is causing some concern because it is upon accommodation for visitors that a seaside town like Filey exists,” he said.

There is to be an orchestra In the Crescent Gardens, and there may be another in the Ravine Hall, which has been redecorated. At the South Dene Pavilion there will be a variety show.

Mr. Hindle said that almost all traces of war had been removed from the beach. The barbed wire had gone, and there were only a few tank teeth left to moved. There were ample supplies of deck chairs and tents and the sands were in excellent condition.

Instead of reducing the number of Filey’s visitors, a holiday camp nearby was bringing more people who wished to stay in the town, Mr. Hindle said.

Filey golf course has not been ploughed up during the war. and the full 18 holes are again In use.
