Delays caused by broken rail

TRAIN passengers travelling between West Yorkshire and Manchester suffered major delays last night after a broken rail was reported on the line.

Northern Rail was forced to lay on replacement buses between Stalybridge and Huddersfield while commuters were warned that services could be terminated at short notice.

Services between Huddersfield and Manchester Victoria were leaving 50 minutes late as a result of safety checks being carried out, though the problem was not expected to last into today.
