‘Despicable’ thefts at fire deaths home

POLICE in Hull are hunting “despicable” thieves who burgled the home of a couple who died in a house fire.

Neighbours tried in vain to save Anna and Victor Crowther when their terrace home in Montrose Street, Hull, became engulfed in flames on Saturday.

Now the Crowthers’ family have had their grief compounded by a burglary, in which heirlooms, jewellery, and children’s toys were stolen.

Det Insp Mark Shreeves said: “This is a despicable crime where thieves have entered the scene of a family tragedy and taken sentimental property belonging to the deceased family members. The family is already devastated by the loss of loved ones and to then lose property in this manner has added a great deal more distress.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
