Developer 'positive' over new shops

THE developer of new Leeds shopping centre has said that its planned extension skywards is positive for the project.

Those behind Trinity West, currently Leeds Shopping Plaza, are in talks with Leeds City Council about plans for a roof extension.

Trinity West forms part of the huge Trinity scheme, which will include 120 units.

A pre-planning application report on the suggestion will be discussed by members of the council's city centre plans panel on Wednesday.

The developers, Land Securities, have said they that wants to build a new retail level on the south end of the roof, which will vary in height between 4.5m and six metres.

Andrew Dudley, of Land Securities, said: "This additional space is something we have looked at a couple of times over the years.

"It didn't make it into the initial submissions as the economic situation suggested that it might not be necessary. The good news is that the continuing success of the lettings to retailers means that we can now see this space being used as our retailers will seek to increase their sales floor by pushingup to this level for extra sales and stock space," he added.
