Dispersal order for troubled estate

AN estate plagued by anti-social behaviour has been made subject to a so-called dispersal order, enabling police to move on anyone causing trouble in the streets.

Following consultation with the local council and other agencies, the order aims to help reduce incidents of anti-social and nuisance behaviour on the streets of the Manton estate in Worksop.

Under the order, uniformed officers can ask people to leave the area and give them notice not to return within 24 hours. Anyone found disobeying the direction to leave or returning to the estate will be liable to arrest.

The move also means that between 9pm and 6am, a uniformed officer can return anyone under 16 who is not under the control of a parent or responsible adult, to their home address.

The order comes into force tomorrow and will run until November 30, and applies to Shrewsbury Road, Radford Street, Hardwick Road East, Hardwick Road West, Featherson Avenue, Rushey Close and Manton Villas.

Pc Matthew Barnes, beat manager for the area, said: "The dispersal notice is another tactic to help combat the problem caused by a small amount of young people who cause misery to others."
