Disruption for resort's residents almost over as £14m works end

A MAJOR regeneration project which has disrupted life in Bridlington is nearly over.

For months traffic has been diverted to allow work on the area surrounding Bridlington Spa.

The make-over for the area includes the controversial re-design of Pembroke Gardens, a new Spa Plaza near the Spa entrance, a new Spa slipway and new-look south foreshore banks.

In all 14m is being spent on the resort, including building a new 1,000-space park and ride on South Shore.

East Riding Council said the road closure on South Marine Drive should be lifted early next month, and the park and ride will be operational by the end of the month.

Work on the B&Q roundabout on Bessingby Road will be finished in June and the Spa Gardens will be completed the same month.

The president of the Bridlington Hotel and Guesthouse Association, Pete Davison, said he was looking forward to seeing the finish of work on what will be a new approach to the town from the south.

He said: "I think in the long run it will benefit everybody in the town centre. It will give people an insight into how nice the town is. I think it is going to be well worth though we've had a bit of disruption."
