Diver dies after North Sea rescue

A DIVER from Yorkshire has died after being rescued from the North Sea.

The diver, named locally as Ian Woolston from Halifax, lost his life off the coast of Scotland south east of Dunbar on Sunday.

Lothian and Borders Police said yesterday that they were not in a position to confirm the identity of the victim adding that they did not consider the death suspicious.

A police spokesman said: “Lothian and Borders Police are investigating the sudden death of a man in his 50s after he took ill during a diving trip, which set off from Eyemouth.

“The man was taken to Ninewells Hospital (in Dundee) after members of his group raised the alarm around 2.30pm on Sunday.

“However, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he later passed away.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances surrounding this death.”
