Divorced couple reunited by book aim to tie knot again

When Ann and Chris Jackson divorced more than a quarter of a century ago it marked the end of an era – or so they thought.

Their love blossomed in seventies Sheffield and much of their courting took place at venues such as Eyre Street’s “Hofbrauhaus”, where they had their wedding reception in 1977.

The couple split a few years later because they “never saw one another” and then didn’t speak for some 26 years. Mrs Jackson remarried, becoming Mrs McCreesh, and had two children before divorcing for a second time.

They were were then reunited, however, after their wedding picture was used in the book Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1970s Sheffield, by local author Neil Anderson. They both attended the book’s launch party in October last year, fell in love all over again and are now set to wed for a second time.

Mrs McCreesh said: “He told me he’d only ever had one love and had sworn never to marry again. He kept that promise until he asked me to marry him – again.”

The pair will wed for the second time at Sheffield’s Rutland Hotel in April, with author Mr Anderson as guest of honour.

He said: “It’s a real honour to have been the person that has set this amazing chain of events in motion. Ann and Chris are fantastic people and I truly hope they find true happiness this time.”
