Dog rescued from cliff edge by firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS had to rescue a two-year-old border collie from the side of a cliff edge after the dog fell 10 feet down a quarry.

The animal, named Hugo, was off his lead when he ran through railings and stumbled down the cliff side into bushes near Lords Head Lane in Warmsworth, Doncaster, at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

His owner dialled 999 after she was unable to reach the fallen animal.

A firefighter then climbed a 10-metre-long ladder to reach the dog, before bringing Hugo down to safety.

Watch manager Daz Robertson, from Edlington fire station, Doncaster, said: “It was quite overgrown where Hugo had fallen so the first challenge was to actually locate exactly where he was.

“Once the firefighter had reached the edge of the cliff it was fairly easy to coax Hugo across so he could carry him down safely.

“Thankfully he wasn’t injured, despite the ordeal.”
