Don't dodge the question, Anna, 9, tells Mr Cameron

MOST little girls would be delighted to receive a letter from a Prime Minister.

But nine-year-old Anna Carnochan was less than impressed with the reply she got back from David Cameron.

The schoolgirl had written a stinging letter confronting him about fears he was about to put a tax on toys, which could severely dent her 2 per week pocket money.

Mr Cameron replied, thanking her for her letter and wishing her well in her studies. But, according to Anna and in true politician style, the PM dodged the question.

"I was quite proud that he answered, because I didn't really think he would," she said.

"But when I read it I was annoyed because it wasn't about anything that I wrote. He didn't answer my questions. But I'm going to write again and say you didn't answer my questions and please answer, but his reply might just say the same thing."

Anna, from Mytholmroyd, near Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, wrote after a friend told her there were plans to tax toys.

"Leanne said they were going to put taxes on toys and everything and seeing as it's not Christmas or my birthday, and I only get 2 a week, its hard to save."

So Anna put pen to paper and wrote: "Dear Mr Cameron, I'm not glad we have to pay our taxes out of toys because children my age, 9, have to pay out of our pocket money. I have thought of two ways of solving this problem: Get all rich people to pay triple what we have to pay – except for the Queen – and 2. Only pay taxes on food and grown-uppy things. From Anna Carnochan. PS. Please do not make us pay taxes on sweets and chocolates."

The letter – and reply – were read out at assembly at Scout Road School in Mytholmroyd, where both she and her five-year-old sister, Mari, are pupils. He mother, Rose said: "I'm not surprised she's writing again, she doesn't miss a trick!"
