Don't leave it too late, plead baby's heartbroken parents

The heartbroken parents of a baby girl who died from meningitis have urged others to act quickly if they suspect the illness.

Ten-month-old Clara Fox died in October after a short battle with pneumococcal meningitis and septicaemia.

Her parents Claire and Stefan Fox, of Upper Poppleton, near York, have set up a fund in memory of their daughter and yesterday spoke of their continuing grief over her loss.

Mrs Fox, 33, said: "Clara has left a hole in so many people's hearts. We hope our fundClarraising will keep her memory alive and I also feel strongly that people need to be much more aware of what a deadly, rapid and devastating disease it is."

The vaccine for pneumococcal meningitis does not protect against all strains of the illness and one in six children who contract end up dead

Mr and Mrs Fox are supporting an awareness drive about the illness.
