Double celebration at renovated park

A FREE event is to be held in Greenhead Park in Huddersfield to celebrate the park’s 127th birthday and its reopening following extensive renovations.

The Celebrate Greenhead Park event will take place on Sunday, September 25, when the Victorian park will be taken over by family entertainment across its 34 acres, showcasing the features restored as part of the recent Heritage Lottery-funded scheme.

The programme will begin at 1pm and will include skate and cycle stunt displays as well as water activities, including Zorbing in the paddling pool, and a Bandstand Marathon in the renovated band stand.

September is a symbolic month for Greenhead Park – it was first open to the public in September 1884 and so the event is a chance to celebrate its 127 years as well as the completion of the restoration work.

To mark the occasion, a birthday banquet will be held in the park’s lower field from 4pm and people are invited to come along with their picnics and enjoy entertainers and performances from a host of street theatre performers.

An opening ceremony beside the lake will officially re-open the park as dusk falls at 7pm.
